After a very stressful week, selling the car, moving out of our apartment, putting all the furniture in storage, and getting the last gear for our trip, the big day was here.
On January 14, 2016, we left San Diego (our jobs and friends) and boarded a plane to Brasilia, Brazil which was to be the beginning of our adventure around the world.
With the help of my United MileagePlus miles I was able to score seats in Global First class (a first for both of us). It was amazing. A six course meal, chair that turned into a bed, and all the champagne and Cognac VSOP we wanted, making the very long flight from the U.S. to Brazil very enjoyable.

On arrival, the weather was not so great (raining and overcast in and out) and we were pretty exhausted from the previous week so we decided to take it easy and get rid of the jetlag.
Brasilia is a very new city, so it doesn’t have very much Brazilian culture. It is located in the country’s center-western region. It was founded on April 21, 1960, to serve as the new national capital, so all of the building are less than 60 years old. The city urban plan looks like a plane, see wikipedia page of Brasilia. Brasília is the federal capital of Brazil and seat of government of the Federal District.
As there is not much to do, we only took one afternoon to walked around the Eixo Monumental and check the different churches and sites. See following link for more details, here

Brasilia was a nice two day stop for us to get adjusted to the timezone and unwind from our hectic departure, but we would not recommend anyone coming to the city for tourism or to get any feel for Brazilian culture.
